The preceptorial succession from teacher to student is known as the Guru parampara (literally, "proceeding from one to another"). It is a line of spiritual teachers in authentic succession of direct knowledge experienced through application of the preceptor's teachings. The commonly held notion that physical touch or physical initiation is required is erroneous and is a sign that one is still rooted in the world of physical duality.
A spiritual preceptor is of great importance in our personal spiritual evolution. However great they might have been, all the sages, saints, jnanis, prophets, and spiritual masters have had their own teachers. Spiritual knowledge is a matter of Guru-parampara. It is handed down from teacher to student through the direct experience of tested knowledge. The teacher's knowledge may be spoken by the teacher to the student, or the student may find it in written text. The vital point though is that once the teaching is encountered, the student applies it, in part or whole, to the point of Self-realization. This is the true Guru parampara.
I think what is needed now is the correction and acceptance of a new path, namely the Yoga of Liberation™. I am attempting to give correction to the old spiritual paths given to humanity by Great Souls in the past and to re-establish the correct Yuga Dharma (the spiritual tradition for this era) by bringing up this new path; a path that gives us the opportunity to attain spiritual liberation at a fast speed as never before. This is an experienced Truth.
